I am a registered psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) since 2007. This means I can only see people who live in Alberta. I specialize in trauma.
I don't direct bill to insurance companies but I will give you a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company.
I have been practicing since before 2007 and have experience working with a wide variety of issues and a diverse population, including immigrant populations. I see adult individuals as well as couples. I work with many issues, such as trauma (PTSD), anxiety, depression, grief and loss, attachment, family and relationship issues, anger, sexual abuse, domestic abuse and violence, and more.
If I had to describe myself, I would say I am a holistic, experiential, body-focused therapist. This involves spirituality, provided you want this to be part of the session.
My area of specialty is trauma (PTSD) and I work in a body-focused way, being a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. This entails working with the energies of the nervous system and allowing stuck energy/defensive responses to be liberated through the body. This way, the nervous system may find its coherence again and resilience, connectedness, and joy in life may be restored. I work with other body-focused approaches as well, such as tapping into the body and cells and interacting with what arises.
I acknowledge that heart, mind and body are equally important aspects of us and aim to help you connect with and experience how each is different. We will work with the senses, most importantly sensation, and the imagery that our being may bring forth. We will explore the mind and how thinking and belief structures impact perception and veil reality. Mindfulness is an underlying ingredient always present in the sessions. How we work will depend on what is needed.
In addition, I work with archetypes, also called inner child healing, which are patterns of behaving, thinking and feeling that can give a crystal clarity to the psyche and our inner and outer relationships, and provide a blueprint for the healing of our wounds. Archetypes derive from the depths of our being and are another way of accessing the unconscious, in addition to body-focused work. I can also help you explore dreams, which are another window into the unconscious.
Mindfulness and attention to the body and sensations will be a part of whatever approach we take in the sessions.
I work from experience and what I have learned in life walking my own healing and spiritual path, and will not invite you to do anything that I haven't done!
