If you have experienced trauma in relationships or from sudden losses or other overwhelming events in your childhood or adulthood, then you know what it’s like to be constantly on guard just waiting for the next bad thing to happen. You get triggered easily into fight or flight responses, become overwhelmed with anxiety, and may shut down with feelings of shame and helplessness. These traumatic responses may feel like a life-sentence, but there is hope for healing. Somatic Experiencing® is a powerful approach for resolving the body’s instinctual survival responses, so you can live with a greater sense of balance, ease and resiliency.
As a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP), I use the “body first” approach of Somatic Experiencing® to help clients turn experiences of grief and trauma into a conscious path of growth and transformation. My approach integrates somatic awareness, trauma and nervous system education, mindfulness practice, and inner relationship focusing to deepen one's inner strengths and further personal and relational growth. I can support you in healing trauma and shame-based identifications, coping with everyday challenges, and expanding your capacity for joyful and compassionate living.
I have completed the 3-year Professional Training Program and all other requirements to be a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP). Additional somatically-based trainings I have completed that inform my SE™ practice include the Complex Trauma Certification Training Levels I & II with Dr. Janina Fisher and the Somatic Inner Relationship Focusing (IRF) training taught by Maureen Gallagher.
I am also a clinically-trained chaplain (Buddhist) with extensive experience in medical settings and end-of-life care, including work in a residency at Columbia University’s Irving Medical Center. I hold a Ph.D. in sociology with expertise in grief, stress and coping, and spiritual care.
