Why Somatic Experiencing (S.E.)?

You haven’t really felt safe for as long as you remember.

When you have experienced an overwhelming event or your basic childhood needs like feeling seen, respected, heard, and safe were not met, it can lead to anxiety, depression, physical symptoms and disease.

Healing is possible.

This is what a session may look like.

In this work, we release emotions that are stuck in your body in the form of clenching and bracing. Using movement, sensation, emotions, imagery and beliefs, we work gently and safely to unlock the trauma and move it through your system. Your system dictates the pace.

The sessions look like a free form, organic conversation.  We may start with orienting to the present moment and to your environment with our senses. Delving into the deep, dark past is not necessary. We work with the pain points and celebrations that are arising in the moment. I look for and ping what is working in both your life and biology.  The process can alter your nervous system so you are able to experience greater health and ease.

Other tools we may use

Together and with compassion, we will mine limiting beliefs - that are often rooted in childhood - and develop new beliefs that help you live your most authentic life. Dialoguing with your inner child - as well as other parts of yourself that are reluctant to participate in change - is often part of the work.  These tools are anchored in your body and coupled with imagery, metaphor and sensation.

Benefits

This work is about reclaiming your sense of safety, agency and accessing your inner wisdom. It helps you shift from the need to please others at your own expense to having the confidence to speak your truth.  It will support you in clarifying  and prioritizing your needs as well as developing deeper connections with others.

About me

I have been in private practice as a Somatic Experiencing practitioner for over 14 years. I am also trained in Organic Intelligence which is integrated in my work. When appropriate and only with permission, I use Touch Skills and Cranial Sacral Therapy to facilitate work with attachment, boundaries, and grounding.

I taught elementary school for 25 years.  That experience has deepened my understanding of  children's needs and their growth process. It informs my work as a practitioner.

As a meditator for over 30  years who lived in a Buddhist Monastary for 3 of those years, I have a particular interest in working with people who have experienced trauma from doing lengthy meditation retreats.

I have personally experienced and witnessed the power of this work, and as a result feel very passionate about helping people on their healing journey.
