Through my own journey of illness and recovery and nursing others through the same, I have developed a strong interest in the mind as it connects to the body and the body as it connects to mind.
A desire to become embodied as a person and as a culture, has guided my work. I believe returning to our bodies reminds us of who we are, what we believe and connects us to our intuition and strength. It is normal to feel disconnected from your body for many reasons, some being eating disorders, survival from trauma, gender identity, or simply living within a culture that makes it challenging to connect with ourselves. I appreciate and value all you have been through and where you are now and will work with you from this place. I approach therapy as a collaboration between you and I, where you are respected and honoured. I integrate SE with Family Systems, Internal Family Systems and EFT.
I am a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP™), a Certified Clinical Traumatologist (TITC-CT), hold a Master of Nursing (MN) from the University of Toronto with a collaboration in Addictions Studies, through which I integrated theories of embodiment, psychotherapy, addiction and recovery and hold an Advanced Certificate in Couple and Family Therapy Studies from University of Guelph. I am an Associate Member of the Canadian Association for Couples and Family Therapy.
My background as a birth doula and a nurse has built in me a deep appreciation for how hard it is to be alive and the support required to get through challenging and transitional times as well as the possibility for resilient growth. I am an avid lover of music, art and dance, believing that creativity is a part of being alive. I work to integrate this understanding into my practice, along with a spiritual and intuitive sense.
