Somatic Trauma Therapist

I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor and S.E.P. offering sessions in Cordova Bay, Victoria. I work with people from all walks of life, varying in age from teens to seniors.

It may be helpful to know that the word soma comes from the ancient Greek and means body. With Somatic Experiencing (S.E.), in the wake of trauma, we are able to become re-aquainted with our internal landscape. Gently, with curiosity and compassion, we invite the "story of the body" to reveal itself.

The focus of my work is to create the conditions where you can begin to experience yourself as who you really are, the self you became distant from since trauma affected your path. In our work together you will gain more access to your own wellspring of truth and knowing. With this newfound ability to know and understand yourself, you will be able to move into more intimate, healthier and ultimately more satisfying relationships with yourself and others.

Healing occurs in relationship; this is the lens through which you will understand the patterns and struggles that may keep you stuck, isolated and overwhelmed. In our work you will begin to move into deeper relationship with yourself through making sense of the feelings you experience in your body. We will be curious about how you notice and experience your world through your body, a means of understanding yourself from which you may have disconnected.

Many of us have challenging relationships within our family systems; together we will compassionately unwind the patterns of perception, behaviours and roles that no longer serve you. In conjunction with your increasing sense of self you will be more able to lean into your familial line and receive the life force energy that is your birthright.

Some of us carry wounding, the origin of which dates back to our infancy. Recent scientific studies have shown that this trauma can be inherited from previous generations. This trauma  begins to show up in different ways in our lives, derailing our health, undermining our relationships, and/or financial success. Somatic touch work is particularly suited for this kind of trauma, allowing people to experience a felt sense of safety and to find rest in their own bodies. This focus on physical and emotional safety is my particular area of practice and interest.

In addition to my Masters degrees in both Art and Science, I have deepened my understanding of relationship at both macro and micro levels. Inherited Family Trauma, in the tradition of Bert Hellinger, and refined by my teacher Mark Wolynn, takes a macro view of relationship. The family system has a consciousness and intelligence of its own; relationships within the system are made sense of through this macro context. I studied Developmental and Attachment Psychology through the Neufeld Institute. World renowned Psychologist Dr. Gordon Neufeld takes a micro view of relationship and the conditions which are most conducive for deep, connected relationships to flourish. My body of knowledge in both of these areas enriches, influences and informs my somatic trauma work.

I look forward to meeting you.
