Ellen Peskin Baum

I am a seasoned therapist with over 30 years of experience, treating individuals, couples, and groups.   My background includes a number of different therapy approaches; including Depth Psychology, Jungian Therapy, Self Psychology, Narrative Therapy, Social Therapy, EMDR and (since 2010) Somatic Experiencing Trauma Healing and AEDP, Level 1--an approach to healing attachment traumas.

My training in AEDP has provided me with the capacity, knowledge and skills to show up as an "Authentic Other" in working to "undo the unbearable aloneness" of having been through overwhelming experiences.

I have great interest and experience in working with grief, especially losses in childhood.  I have a strong Spiritual orientation with a profound faith in the natural drive towards wholeness and healing that resides in every one of us.  I see my job as awakening, encouraging and nourishing that drive, which can open the door to; vitality, creativity, a sense of security and confidence in one's self and joy.

Perhaps sharing a prayer that I touch into before every session will give you a sense of how I relate to my work.  The prayer goes like this, "Open this heart, incline this ear and guide this tongue."

I find the language of the body beautifully eloquent--it's gestures, postures, movements, sensations--a feeling of tension, a numbness or frozenness, a fiery constriction, pressure, pain, longing, the stirring of aliveness and joy.  With safe, loving and gentle curiosity, the body begins to "speak" and reveal the stories it holds--stories or images we often don't yet have words for.

I invite you to join me in a very gentle, gradual, and powerful process, to discover together where and how the natural flow of your life has gotten stalled, and to create the conditions needed to awaken and restore that natural flow.
