Licensed Psychologist, Certified Sandplay Therapist and Teacher, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner

I have over 30 years of experience working with people, young and old, as a Licensed Psychologist. A lifelong learner, I have continued throughout my practice to seek out new tools which make sense, are effective, and help me to understand myself and then to help those who choose to work together with me on a path of healing. In my private practice in rural Minnesota I delight in working together with adults. Addressing attachment issues and trauma have been important themes in my practice.

Somatic Experiencing has been powerful in its healing effects in my life. Experiencing shifts and getting unstuck are major parts of the process. I also help people learn skills: to be able to listen to their bodies, to hang out even with the uncomfortable parts so that shifts can occur, and to benefit from the wisdom our bodies share with us.

Some of the other tools in my toolbox include:

Sandplay (in the tradition of Dora Kalff) is a non-verbal, experiential therapy which taps into wisdom and information held by our bodies and the non-verbal part of our brain. It aids in healing using symbols and images, grounded in Jungian psychology.

Play therapy, which uses the primary way in which children process their lives to tell a story, gain mastery over difficult experiences, and reconnect with joy.

Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR-Level 2), treating trauma using bilateral movement, tapping into the brain's way of working with difficult experiences.

"In Touch Again," (the work of Dr. Agnes Bayley) using sensory experiences to awaken and bring back to aliveness the part of the brain that is so necessary for social/emotional growth and connectedness. Attachment theory comes to life in hands-on experiences, as well as a new understanding of where parents come from in their own attachment.

Emotional Freedom Technique or "Tapping" - a form of energy medicine which uses acupuncture points to clear energy blocks, while acknowledging both the current problem and self-acceptance at the same time.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy in which we learn to recognize the thoughts that run automatically, and the ways we can take charge and change the old tapes to new, supportive and helpful messages.

Mindfulness - learning to be present in this moment, to be aware of here and now, to allow the rest of what comes up to pass by without hooking me. Awareness of the connections between body, mind, and spirit.

Please feel free to be in touch with me with questions about SE and my practice. Let's figure out together how what you are looking for can connect with what I bring to move towards healing.
