Jane R. Wheatley-Crosbie, MSW, LCSW

Psychotherapist (LCS #5276)

For over forty years Jane has been offering embodied depth psychotherapy and consultation to individuals, couples, and groups.  Her work is holistic and relational, emerging from a body-mind-brain-soul perspective. She weaves a tapestry of Jungian, psychodynamic, and somatic approaches intertwined with object relations theory and affective neuroscience. She also teaches workshops and ongoing study groups for experienced therapists.

Jane’s specialty is treating psychological trauma in adults resulting from disruptions in early childhood attachment relationships. When infants are continually upset because they haven’t received enough basic care from their parents, their nervous systems are left in a chronically dysregulated state. Circumstances like this can lead to developmental deficits in their emerging stress response systems. Such deficits are often embedded in a variety of common conditions: relationship difficulties, chronic stress, depression, anxiety/panic, dissociation, eating disorders, and chronic illness (such as IBS, chronic fatigue, multiple chemical sensitivity, migraine, fibromyalgia, and autoimmune conditions, among many others).

Jane uses a variety of tools to foster the genesis of new neural pathways essential for restoring health and well-being. She holds the relationship between the client and herself at the center of the work. Establishing a safe enough container is the first step in developing a positive therapeutic bond through which a client’s early relationship wounds can be recapitulated and repaired. She also works with physical symptoms, helping people regulate stress in the nervous system. As people learn how to track sensations and identify feelings related to them, they learn to ground their emotions and integrate their experience in the body. Dreamwork and voice dialogue are additional tools she uses to help people discover and follow their soul's unique path toward wholeness.

Jane’s personal background experience includes Chi Gong, Authentic Movement, Tibetan Buddhist meditation, singing and songwriting, writing in various forms (journal, creative, professional), and being a grandmother.  She has also learned to live amicably with a chronic digestive disorder, honoring its symptoms as guides along her healing journey.
