Kristin Burns

Kristin Burns is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, DARe Practitioner, Somatic Touch Practitioner, Yoga Facilitator, Reiki Master/ Teacher and Zen Shiatsu Practitioner. She brings a unique perspective to her work, incorporating 20 years of studying both eastern and western modalities and philosophies. Kristin currently practices psychotherapy, energy work, and bodywork in Oak Park, IL. She works primarily with adolescents and adults in her private practice. Kristin utilizes a relational, nonjudgmental, body-centered, strengths-based approach in her work.

Through her years of study and practice, Kristin continued to explore more about the body’s response to traumas and stresses. She became more interested and invested in the body-mind-spirit connection, realizing the talking piece of releasing old experiences, patterns and emotions are important, though in many cases, not enough. As she embraced this knowledge of our body holding onto our experiences, both positive and challenging or traumatic, she realized the body and spirit needed equal, if not more support in releasing these adaptive patterns that may be holding us back from being in full connection with ourselves physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Kristin continues to go deeper into her current knowledge base and seeks out new information that embraces this mind-body connection.  In sessions, she uses an integrative approach utilizing body-centered therapies; Somatic Experiencing, Kathy Kain's Touch Skills Training, Diane Poole Heller's DAR-e (Dynamic Attachment Repatterning Experienc), Deirdre Fay's, Becoming Safely Embodied, Yoga, Mindfulness and Meditation and Creative Processes to support meaningful shifts in clients. She is the Founder of "Embodied Shakti" a trauma-informed prenatal yoga workshop incorporating the 8 Limbs of Yoga, SE, Attachment, and creative process.  Kristin genuinely respects the partnership and privilege of collaborating with clients to facilitate their inner wisdom toward healing.

She is a personal session provider and offers consultation for SE students.
