Laurie Schwartz

Body-Centered Creative Arts Somatic Psychotherapist

Laurie Schwartz began her training as a Somatic Psychotherapist in 1979 with Ilana Rubenfeld. Her search for the integration of psyche, soma and soul continued. She trained in the Hakomi Method of Body-Centered Psychotherapy in 1984 and became a teacher of Hakomi in 2003. She is also certified in Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy, Jin, Shin, Jyutsu, Shiatsu, The Alexander Method, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, Jungian Dream Analysis and Modern Group Analysis, More recently she has trained in AEDP and EFT.
Laurie was instrumental in creating the SE trainings in New York City and Vermont. She assisted in the SE trainings for many years in New York City, Vermont, Israel and Switzerland. She is known for her love, service, passion, devotion and ongoing commitment to trauma healing.
She has been an SEP in New York City since March 2000 and has been an Advanced Group supervisor and SEP individual therapist since 2002. She also traveled to Israel for several years where she assisted in SE trainings and facilitated seminars in several Trauma Centers throughout Israel.
In 2003 Laurie began to integrate drumming, music, dance and Group Process into her career. She has been very successful in working with many different groups where she fosters Connection, Contact, Creativity within A Community Setting.
Since 2007 she has been exploring the integration and synthesis of Somatic Experiencing with Biodynamic Cranial Sacral Therapy with people who are in the process of also healing pre and peri-natal trauma.
Her interest in early imprinting has grown and evolved as she has continued to heal and evolve from the preverbal misattunement that she discovered while training.
In 2005 Laurie received an award from USABP for participating in doctoral research with Amelia Kaplan.
Her ongoing devotion to conscious embodiment has been with her since she received her massage license in 1980. Laurie does integrate SE with bodywork and does find this combination very effective for the ongoing healing and transformation that is essential for all people who would like to experience a grounded, embodied state of love an Being.
Licensed as a massage therapist and licensed as a counseling psychologist in NYC Laurie has been facilitating Supervision Groups for Hakomi students as well as students of Somatic Experiencing. Her groups are also open to all therapists who are searching for ways to be more body inclusive.
Laurie lived and worked in Africa from 1975-1978 as a music teacher in the US Peace Corps and she has been performing on the Jembe in Africa Music Ensembles.
Laurie has created, designed and facilitated seminars entitled "Unity and Diversity" where she does incorporate African Music and Dance in order to help heal the effects of trauma within a community setting and to foster ongoing resourcing, consciousness, connection, collaboration and creativity.
