My first career was in Accounting and Finance, however after 10 years in the industry I felt unfulfilled and changed directions. I returned to school and completed a second undergraduate degree in Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour from McMaster University. My undergraduate degree inspired me to pursue a Master of Social Work and to learn more about brain science which I have incorporated into my work. I completed my Master of Social Work degree at the University of Toronto specializing in Children and Families.
Since graduating, I have immersed myself in trainings in trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, parenting, family therapy and couples therapy. I am passionate about collaborating with clients to identify the patterns in their life that are keeping them stuck in emotions, thoughts and behaviours that move them away from the life they want to live. We honour the protective mechanisms that helped with survival and then bring curiousity and compassion to the initial purpose of these patterns. Through various trainings in trauma from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and most recently Thomas Hubl’s Timeless Wisdom Training I have come to appreciate the intelligence of our nervous system to adapt and to heal. I believe that clients are empowered when they have a deeper understanding of how their nervous system works so I bring in psychoeducation when appropriate about the brain and the body. I also work with clients to help them identify their values, goals and purpose as a compass to guide their therapeutic journey.
My philosophy is a client(s) centered and collaborative approach, which means you will drive the therapeutic process while I serve as a guide. As a clinician, I believe in continuous learning to ensure that I am able to offer clients a variety of therapeutic options. I believe it is important to be curious and non-judgmental and I have found that when clients feel heard and seen it begins the healing process. It would be my privilege to join you in your journey of healing and self-discovery
