Trauma is linked to anxiety, depression, and relationship problems (Bessel, 2021). We tend to think that trauma only happens to war veterans or victims of assault. However, emotional neglect, being raised in an unpredictable home, having a complicated relationship with parents, or being exposed to stress etc. can have a life-long impact.
People can feel hesitant about seeking treatment for trauma because it can open a door to feeling overwhelmed. However, this is not the case with Somatic Experiencing. You probably have tried therapy in the past but continue to feel stuck, anxious, or depressed. Trauma therapy is not about understanding what happened; in fact, talking about it can be retraumatizing (Bessel 2020).
Trauma is something that you might have managed to put away but eventually comes back in symptoms such as anxiety, panic attacks, depression, anger, and feeling disconnected. Some patients I have worked with have shared their experiences on Google reviews (Terra Counseling Center). This may be a helpful resource. Lastly, beside my postgraduate in clinical work I also was trained psychodynamically at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute for four years.
I provide sessions in person and virtually.
