I am a licensed Psychologist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Assistant in the NYC SE Trainings. I am in private practice in Englewood, New Jersey. I trained at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at NYU Medical Center with Dr. John Sarno, M.D., in the mid 1980's. One of my areas of specialty remains in treating people with chronic pain (TMS/PPD) and psychosomatic disorders. I continue to be closely associated with Dr. Sarno, contributing a portion in the 'Psychotherapy Chapter' of his latest book, "The Divided Mind" and working with many of his patients. In terms of the SE model, one way to view chronic pain (TMS/PPD) is a 'thwarted' Threat Response (Fight or Flight) which energetically becomes trapped in the body manifesting in symptoms. The SE model incorporates very powerful techniques designed to complete these thwarted threat responses thus facilitating healing. In addition, I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, neglect, OCD, addiction, marital and family discord as well as Spiritual unease.
I come to Somatic Experiencing with many years of experience integrating Eastern approaches to Healing and Living such as Visualization, Yoga, Mindfulness, Shamanism, Buddhism and Taoism, with more traditional Western orientations including Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Gestalt and Energetic Psychotherapies. One of my deep satisfactions in working with people lies in helping to create a safe environment in which to experience the flow of Life-Energy in our bodies, bringing our Nervous Systems back into healthy regulation. We reclaim the powerful, creative wisdom of the MindBodySpirit, which the stresses and traumas of life have impacted upon, thus expanding capacity and resiliency in the Nervous System. Ultimately recapturing that, "Radiance which was once so bright", with a greater sense of gratitude, humor, wonder and joy.
