Shelley Coleman is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Licensed Professional Counselor in West Virginia. She holds specialty certifications in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Supervision. Shelley’s clinical work started in 2006 and has focused on couples and families, as well as trauma recovery and group work. Shelley completed her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from The University of the Cumberlands in August of 2021.
Previously, Shelley has served in several community advocacy groups that provide support for women navigating domestic violence and complex trauma. This remains an area of interest as she focuses her research on women living with domestic abuse and ways to better inform counselors to provide support for women and children seeking safety and healing from its impact. Shelley began her journey toward certification in Somatic Experiencing in 2018. She incorporates SE into both her clinical practice as well as in her teaching in counselor educator. She completed her dissertation that explored the somatic experience of people who identify as women who have endured coercive control by a domestic partner.
