SE™ INTERNATIONAL PRACTITIONER DIRECTORY

Andrea L. Bell

Psychotherapist, S.E.P, Doctor of Arts in Ecological Psychology

I've been an SE Practitioner for a long time now, and I've assisted at many SE practitioner trainings... and I'm even more passionate about this work than I was when I started.  Helping a client learn to "talk" with their own nervous system, to unwind the trauma within, can be a tricky process. It's often intense, usually surprising...and so very rewarding.  I'm also passionate about teaching my clients what I know, about the nervous system, trauma healing, and self regulation. That way, it becomes theirs and they take it with them into their lives outside of my office.

I work well with many different people, and I have a knack for working with creative, unusual or "out of the box" folks, and/or people who may not have been well understood in their previous efforts to find healing. Historically, my practice has encompassed a wide diversity of people, including artists, college/grad students, senior citizens, caregivers, high achievers, people with stressful jobs, persons with developmental disabilities, persons with severe/chronic mental illness, and recovering substance abusers.

My clients learn about their nervous systems, how to "talk" and "listen" with them, and how to downregulate out of the stress response.  I help them learn to find, and tolerate, their emotions until the emotions "complete" and pass through. This enables the person to be a lot more free to enjoy the present moment. I work from a humanistic perspective, and (besides SE) I also have training in behavioral therapy, addiction recovery, and existentialism. I'm certified in therapeutic touch, by Kathy Kain, SEP.

I'm also an ecotherapist and a certified California Naturalist.  We humans come from nature, and nature can be very important in our self-regulation and our well-being.  It's also normal to feel stress and anxiety when our fellow humans are destroying our home, that is, the ecosystems that support life on this planet.  So some people find that addressing issues such as climate anxiety, or distress related to ecological destruction, is important in the overall scope of their trauma healing; and I can and do work with these issues when the person wants/needs it.
